| The South Island punKfest was born November 16th 2002 as the "NEIL ROBERTS 20th ANNIVERSARY MEMORIAL PUNK FEST". Gonk got a whole bunch of people together to enjoy a right jolly lot of punk noise to honor the 20th anniversary of Neil Roberts blowing himself apart in the foyer of Wanganui Computer center as a protest against what he saw as the growing police state. Since then we've had several punkfests as a semi-annual event, with the big one coming up later this year. Big thanks to everyone who has continued to support us, sell tix, spread the word, and most of all show up to the bloody thing. Just to avoid confusion. This is not an extension of the Wellington punKfest, but is an entirely seperate event orginised by people in the South Island of NZ. Our punKfest shares a similar name to other punKfests simply beacause it does. |
